Why older smartphones and operating systems are no longer supported

At GUIBO, we aim to offer your travelers a modern, reliable, and secure app experience – including digital travel documents, navigation, offline content, and live updates.

To continuously improve these features, we depend on up-to-date technology. Older smartphones and outdated operating systems often lack the compatibility needed to support modern app frameworks. While basic navigation may still work on these devices, many newer app features rely on system capabilities that are no longer available or supported.

Another important factor is security: Apple and Google no longer provide security updates for many older operating system versions. This makes it impossible for us to guarantee a safe and functional experience on these devices.

Minimum requirements:

  • iOS: The app requires at least iOS 16.

  • Android: Due to the wide variety of Android devices and manufacturer-specific changes, we cannot define a precise minimum Android version. As a guideline, you can refer to the Android versions currently supported by Google: 👉

To help you communicate this clearly to travelers, we’ve prepared a simple explanation below that you can share directly.

Worldwide Android and iOS (Apple) version distribution

Android (April 2025)
Apple iOS (April 2025)
  • Android 14: 33,49 %

  • Android 13: 16,94 %

  • Android 12: 12,11 %

  • Android 11: 10,42 %

  • Android 15: 10,01 %

  • Android 10: 5,57 %

  • iOS 18.3: 53,61 %

  • iOS 18.4: 11,69 %

  • iOS 17.6: 4,66 %

  • iOS 18.1: 4,17 %

  • iOS 16.7: 3,25 %

  • iOS 15.8: 2,64 %

Why the travel app may not work on some older smartphones

We understand that it can be disappointing when a technical solution like our travel app doesn’t work as expected on your device. Please allow us to explain the reason behind this.

To provide you with the best possible experience – including offline maps, up-to-date route guidance, and relevant trip information – the app relies on modern technologies that are regularly updated. Older smartphones or tablets may not be compatible with some of these functions, especially if the operating system is no longer supported by the device manufacturer.

Specifically:

  • For Apple devices, the app requires at least iOS 16.

We understand that this may cause inconvenience. To ensure that you still have everything you need for your journey, we are pleased to offer the following alternatives:

  • A PDF version of your travel documents (roadbook) is available for download and can be used without the app.

  • You can also download GPX files of your route, which can be imported into external navigation devices such as a Garmin.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and are here to support you in making your trip as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Wishing you a wonderful journey!

For Android devices, compatibility depends on the manufacturer and device model. As a general rule, the app works best on versions still officially supported by Google. You can find an overview here:
